Try This All Natural Solution For Inflammation

During the “farmhouse” remodel, both MM and I had issues with sciatic pain… some worse than others. Whenever I felt the first twinge, I grabbed the naproxen or ibuprophen.  But, I have this thing about taking drugs of any kind… even OTC ones so when a friend told me about a drink that really helps her fibromyalgia pain, I asked for a copy of the recipe. She emailed it and now I try to keep a pitcher full in the refrigerator.

It’s easy to make and the only thing I had trouble finding locally was the fresh Turmeric. I found a Health Food Store, 60 miles away… at $18 a pound. I ordered a pound online, much cheaper and also fresher.

I drink a glass every morning and hopefully head-off any more sciatic problems. So far, it’s working!

Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients:
3 inches of fresh ginger, unpeeled and sliced thin
3 inches of fresh turmeric, unpeeled and sliced thin
15 whole cloves
3-4 sticks of cinnamon bark
5 lemons, juiced and seeds removed
1/8 t black pepper or 4-5 peppercorns
7 oz fresh cranberries OR 1 1/2 c. pure Organic Cranberry Juice (not from concentrate). I don’t have access to fresh cranberries except at Christmas, so here is where I order juice.
Honey to desired sweetness ( I prefer it tart, so I don’t add sweetener)

Instructions:
1. Put cranberries **, ginger, turmeric, cinnamon and cloves in a medium saucepan and fill with water.
2. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer on low heat, for about 30 mins. or until the cranberries have “popped”.

Making this turmeric and ginger tea is easy and has really help with sciatic pain.

3. Strain and squeeze out all the goodies you can. Let set until it reaches room temperature.
4. Add lemon juice and cranberry juice** to cooled liquid. NEVER add lemon juice to anything warmer than room temperature because it diminishes the benefits of fresh lemon juice.
5. Add enough water to make 16 cups. Add sweetener and refrigerate.
6. Drink as often and as much as you like. If I’m having an inflammation flare-up, I drink as much as I can. As a maintenance drink, I do 8 oz. once or twice a day.

**Note in the recipe when to add the cranberries or cranberry juice. Do not boil or simmer the cranberry juice… only the fresh cranberries.

I would recommend this turmeric-ginger tea to anyone who has issues with inflammation of any kind.

I’m in the process of trying to root a couple of the turmeric rhizomes, so that I can grow my own. According to the YouTube video… it isn’t hard to root at all. I’ll keep you updated on my progress.
